The Priesthood of Melchizedek

The Priesthood of Melchizedek represents an eternal and superior priesthood revealed in Scripture through the mysterious figure of Melchizedek, king of Salem and priest of the Most High God. When Melchizedek met Abraham, he blessed him, and Abraham gave him a tenth of everything (Genesis 14:18–20).

Unlike the Levitical priesthood, which was established through the descendants of Levi under the Law of Moses, Melchizedek's priesthood is presented as having a greater and enduring order. Hebrews 7 explains that Melchizedek's priesthood points beyond the Levitical system to Jesus Christ, who is declared a priest “forever according to the order of Melchizedek” (Psalm 110:4; Hebrews 7:17).

The Melchizedek priesthood therefore speaks of righteousness, peace, blessing, spiritual authority, and an enduring relationship with God. It is associated with the ministry of a priest who stands before God on behalf of His people while proclaiming God's blessing and righteousness.
